Karolina

I’ll be honest with you. I’m not the type of person who cries over lattes at every coffee shop. But there’s that morning in Balatonfüred when you sit down in Karolina and you feel that all is right with the world.

They don’t do anything other than what they should – just the way they should. They’re not pushing it, they’re not trying to be cooler than they are. It’s just nice to be there. The place has a vibe that you can’t fake. It’s a bit like grandma’s living room meets a terrace on the shores of Lake Balaton meets the world’s most laid-back vibe.

Sitting there on a hot morning, just watching the sun filter through the foliage. I asked for a presso, then a cookie, then another. Within two minutes I felt like I’d been going there for years. Everyone behind the counter smiles, but not that fake smile – they’re genuinely happy you’re there.

The cakes? Dude… that raspberry cheesecake thing still sticks in my mind days later. Not that grocery store feeling, but full-on homemade, real stuff that doesn’t make you think about how much you worked out yesterday, but when you’ll be back again.

Karolina doesn’t want to be more than that: a place to be. And that’s pretty rare these days. No wonder that once you come in, you come back regularly. I already know that this place will be a must-stop every morning on Lake Balaton.

So if you’re ever in Balatonfüred, don’t think twice – head to Karolina. Then, if the day starts well, the rest is just extra.
