If you haven’t danced barefoot on the shores of Lake Balaton, you haven’t really been there.
Okay, Plázs is hard to talk about quietly. Because this place doesn’t happen quietly. This is the party on Lake Balaton where the city doesn’t fall asleep, it just switches to another mode. Here you don’t plan until sunset – you plan beyond.
The first time I was at Plázs, I immediately felt: this is not the place you just drop in. It’s where you’re meant to be. You prepare for it, get your mates together, think about what you’re comfortable in but look good in, and in your head you’re already on the dance floor. The sun slowly dips behind the water, the beach turns to vibrating lights, the speakers blare and the party starts.
What’s special about it is not just the size or the programme – it’s the fact that it puts a real Balaton feel on max volume. Not a forced festival atmosphere – but a relaxed, real summer evening where everyone lets loose a bit. There are big stage DJs, big name acts, but my best night was still when there was only a small section playing and I was dancing barefoot in the sand with a bunch of random people, and it was like a clip of me suddenly becoming the main character.
The most beautiful? That the water’s always there for you. And when you’re tired, you sit down on the edge of the pier, your feet in Lake Balaton, the music still playing, and you feel: you’re in the middle of summer, for real.
